Hello.

Hi.

I turned 18 over a week ago. I am getting old. I used to pooh-pooh my friends when they came to me with this lament (because I was always younger than them - whether by years or by months) but now I understand their distress. I realise I can't boy-watch in shopping centres anymore because all the guys there are pre-SPM secondary school kids who don't look mature enough to catch your interest. When I came back from tennis class, I realised that all the people who were taking lessons there were no more than 3 feet tall. On my birthday, in Times Square, I played bumper cars with primary school kids and I tell ya, twas no fun banging them.

It feels as if the hands of time are gripping me tightly by the collar and dragging me down the tunnel of age at full speed without letting me enjoy the sights and scenes as well as the free-spiritedness of youth and having the right to be reckless, carefree and impetuous only to have me end up at the end of the tunnel, clueless about the journey that I've sailed through and walking around feeling cheated and wondering where the rosy promises of life went to.

When I was 15, I couldn't wait to be 18. Now that I've reached 18, I wish beyond all wishing that I was 15 again and still in secondary school with all the time in the world to figure out who the hell I really am (cuz even tho it's been 3 yrs since then, I'm still quite sure I don't know who I really am altho the trouble with that now is that, I'm almost an adult and I should have figured out things like that by now) and to do all the crazy stuff I know now I should have done back then.

Haih. You know you're getting old when you finally begin to understand the saying, "Youth is wasted on the young."
